"The issues are in the tissues"
Craniosacral therapy ensures your muscles and connective tissues remain free of stress and tension allowing your health to flourish.
Muscle tension and pain
Our muscles contract and beocme tense as a reaction to stress, accidents or injury. This is a useful protective mechanism at the time and once the stressor has passed, they naturally relax. However, it is often the case that they don't relax fully, meaning that the impact of accidents or stress can remain held in your body. This can lead to pain and discomfort now or some years later when your body has exhausted its adaptive capacity. Craniosacral therapy aims to unlock these areas or patterns of tension and resolve any associated problems.
Stress - 'the spice of life'
Stress can be the 'spice of life' but when continued unchecked it can lead to problems. Its causes range from work stress to moving house or relationships. The effects can result in anxiety, emotional upset, poor concentration, fatigue, high blood pressure, sleeplessness, teeth grinding, irritable bowl symdrome (IBS), muscle tension and pain, tension headache and more.
Craniosacral therapy works to undo these adverse effects and can help prevent them in the first place.
Planning for good health
Maintaining good health is an ongoing process. You do not have to be stressed, ill or injured to benefit from craniosacral therapy. Regular treatment as part of your health plan can help maintain balance in your body, preventing poor health and ensuring you continue to feel relaxed, energised and in harmony with your body.
Monthly or fortnightly treatments can help you maintain good health and relaxation whilst managing the day-to-day stresses and strains. These craniosacral therapy sessions can also be used to bring focus and creativity in your work or even as a support to mindfulness based stress reduction meditation.
What does a treatment involve?
Your first visit begins with a brief chat to determine what you would like from the treatment and to decide upon a plan for your health. You then lie on a comfortable treatment couch fully clothed, whilst the practitioner lightly contacts specific areas of your body including the head and sacrum, which is located at the base of your back.
This gentle contact facilitates relaxation of the whole body and as you gradually deepen into the process you become aware of your body slowly letting go of unwanted tension and returning to balance. Sensations of warmth and a sense of wellbeing are common experiences during a treatment.
